I.1 - Little Joe from Chicago (1938)

Following the success of “Roll ‘Em,” written in 1937 for the Benny Goodman band, Mary Lou Williams wrote another boogie for the Andy Kirk band, “Little Joe from Chicago,” dedicated to manager Joe Glaser and recorded for Decca in 1938. This edition is a meticulous transcription of the Kirk recording, informed by an incomplete short score/sketch in Williams’ hand.
